From Bossa to Tango: Sounds of South America
Saturday, January 30, 8 PM. Snow date: Sunday, January 31, 3 PM.
Long before the bossa nova craze of the 1960s, musicians from North and South America influenced and inspired each other. In this concert, we will recreate well-loved bossas and sambas, while also delving into Brazilian Choro and Frevo, Tango from Argentina, Candombe from Uruguay and Joropo from Venezuela.

Our local landscape inspires WJO’s first original commission, Flow: In Celebration of the Hudson River, written by Artistic Director Mike Holober. Rounding out the concert will be early American folk, work and field songs including “Down By the Riverside” and “Pick a Bale of Cotton,” as well as a new and not-to-be-missed arrangement of "The Star Spangled Banner."
